The best board games for toddlers and preschoolers are cooperative games because they encourage them to take turns while developing other skills. It's also one of my mother's favorite kids games and has the official unofficial Lois seal of approval.  Pete the Cat: The Missing Cupcakes Ages: 3+ Players: 2-4 Join Pete the Cat and his friends as they work together to get the missing cupcakes back from Grumpy Toad. Players collect colorful cupcakes as they sing songs, act out physical activities, and identify favorite animals, foods and words in this fun board game. It is a game of luck, memory, and cooperation that changes every time it is played. Pete is also just cool, so have some Pete books around for after the game is over.  Connect4 Age: 5+ (the box recommends age 6) Players: 2 Connect4 requires strategy and thinking ahead. If your 5-year-old has mastered Tic-Tac-Toe, let them try their hand at this. As a bonus, there's just something about the sound of those red and yellow chips knocking into each other as you dump them out on the floor. Takes me back ... way back :)  Hoot Owl Hoot! Age: 4+ Players: 2-4 Kids learn simple strategy, following directions & taking turns. Two levels of play allow the game to grow with your child and lets older kids play with younger ones too. It also cultivates emotional development, shared decision making, positive self esteem, creative problem solving, and develop a sense of community.  Skippity Ages: 5+ Players 2-4 Skippity is the perfect game to practice basic strategic planning and forward thinking.
